Howarth Gurdjieff Archive

This web site contains the personal archives of Dushka Howarth (daughter of Jessmin Howarth and George I. Gurdjieff) and was initiated by Dushka before her death in 2010.

Search tips: The contents of this archive can be searched using the search box at the upper right. Items are indexed by filename, language, title, item and binder ID, and by keywords. Use quotation marks to search for a particular phrase. Example: "French 24" will only find items that contain the exact phrase "French 24". Searching for French 24 without quotation marks will find anything with the keyword 'French' or the keyword '24'.

An asterisk can be used as a wildcard character to find partial words. For example, a search for musi* will find any item with the word 'music' or the word 'musique'. Wildcards can be used to search for keywords within filenames.

For example a search for *amer33* will find files such as 1a-4756amer33fr22march-classMusic-2PW.pdf and 1b-1328amer33fr22-39SoAmerica-2PW.pdf. For Movements in the 39/46 series, the Movements Index is a good place to start. Click the name of a Movement in the index to see related items in the archive.

The controls on the right hand side of the search results page can be used to filter the search results to show only items in a particular language, or in a particular format: PDF files created from digitized versions of loose leaf binders, or audio files. By default the search results are sorted by relevance, but the 'Sort by' drop down in the control box can be used to sort by other criteria such as binder or item ID, title, or filename.

Click here to view a list of abbreviations used in pdf and audio filenames, and in audio label track notes.

Tips for viewing PDF files:

Some of the password-protected PDF files in the archive will not open in earlier versions of Apple's Preview program, the default PDF viewer for Apple computers. If this problem occurs, please download the free Adobe Reader application and use this to view archive PDF files rather than Apple Preview.

Invitation to visit the more comprehensive original paper collection of the Howarth Gurdjieff Archive: The original source copies of this archive have been placed, as wished by Dushka Howarth in her will, in the secured research department of the Jerome Robbins Dance Division of the New York Public Library of the Performing Arts, at Lincoln Center in New York City, New York, USA.
